A view of Beyond the Rim: Cross-Country to Comanche Point featuring Colorado River in Grand Canyon National Park, AZ on the Cape Solitude Trail at midday in Spring.

Beyond the Rim: Cross-Country to Comanche Point

📍 Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona

The Story

The Grand Canyon is a place that has always captured my heart. Across at least seven adventures, my relationship with this endless landscape has evolved dramatically. My first visit was a touristy stop at the West Rim, but the itch to explore deeper quickly took hold. After my first real hike 3 months prior, a 12-mile icy trek to Plateau Point, the need for true solitude was calling my name. Equipped with a GPX track, I headed cross-country past Desert Tower down an abandoned jeep trail, navigating undulating, trailless terrain up to Comanche Point. From this vantage, 9 miles of the Colorado River stretches across the landscape. Somewhere in the distance lies the confluence of the Little Colorado and Colorado rivers. One day, I’d love to explore that confluence from the rim at Cape Solitude, and down at the river!
