Starlight and Snow at Mather Point

The Story

Waiting for long exposures to finish on a frigid, intensely windy night at Mather Point, the vibrant sky overhead provided a stark, beautiful contrast to the heavy light pollution back home on Long Island. Reaching this vantage point required microspikes just to safely navigate the sheer ice, but safely bundled up, it was easy to just stand back and soak in the surreal starlight illuminating the snow-draped canyon walls. A perfect, quiet prelude before setting off on a 12-mile round-trip trek down to Plateau Point the following morning.
