September 29, 2026 — After being heavily disappointed yesterday with cloud-socked summits, today was shaping up to be much better. I had my vengeance earlier in the day with a return to Owls Head Mountain, and now I was after some more low-risk, high-reward payoffs in case the weather decided to close in again. The hike up Belfry Mountain is a very quick outing; roughly a quarter mile one way will get you directly to the fire tower. From the cab, the 360-degree panorama is pretty nice in all directions. The region was still lingering with low-hanging clouds on the horizon, so the distant High Peaks were hidden today, but the immediate payoff is well worth the short trek.
